About the role


We are searching for a new M&A Analyst join Orica’s global Development team. Our Development team exists to support and drive critical corporate decisions and acquisition and divestment opportunities. This exciting and very rare opportunity will support the Manager – Growth with the analysis of business performance, identification of execution opportunities and supporting business units in execution of transactions. 

In this critical role, you will be responsible for creating value by structuring, modelling and presenting proposed investments to senior decision makers including our Executive Committee, CEO and Board of Directors. To be successful in the role, you will bring a background in M&A from an industry or investment banking background and have a strong commercial acumen and numerical skills. What you will be doing

 

  • Develop, interpret, and present financial analysis for important M&A initiatives, including building best practice models as well as working with analysis developed by Business Units.
  • Assess and communicate the strategic importance of potential M&A opportunities, including developing Executive and Board papers.
  • Support key workstreams for the Development Team, including developing regional and product M&A strategies, identification and execution of M&A transactions, assessing strategic initiatives and supporting the broader Development Team and Orica business.
  • Work and influence effectively with a diverse range of functional groups across the enterprise, including global Strategic Marketing & Technology, Manufacturing and Supply, Group Finance and Regional teams.
     

What you will bring

 

  • Role ideally suited to individuals with 4+ years’ work experience in a tier 1 or 2 investment bank or reputable accounting firm. 
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in business, economics, finance or equivalent. Tertiary qualification in law, engineering, science or equivalent also highly regarded.
  • Experience in transaction execution, including Due Diligence is highly advantageous.
  • Proven structured problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Advanced MS Excel based financial modelling capabilities, being modelling of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other complex transaction structures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present strategic logic and recommended pathways, coupled with the ability to present succinctly to senior key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with senior internal stakeholders.
